Why Valencia?

Valencia, a vibrant city

A place full of contrasts awaits the visitor with a charming old town next to futuristic buildings. This is Valencia, one of Spain’s most welcoming cities to spend a few days at. Beyond the cultural effervescence of its cities, a stroll is always a good idea, or bathing at its Mediterranean beaches.

Due to its long history, Valencia has numerous celebrations and traditions, such as the Fallas, which was declared a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest of Spain in 1965 and an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in November 2016. The city was selected as the European Capital of Sport 2011, the World Design Capital 2022 and the European Green Capital 2024.

Places to see in Valencia

Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias

Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias

This stunning complex was built in the old Turia riverbed. It’s made of a series of spectacular buildings that are mostly the work of world-famous, locally born architect Santiago Calatrava. The principal buildings are a majestic opera house, a science museum, a 3D cinema and an aquarium.

Address:

Avenida del Professor López Piñero

What I like about it

The promenades and pools around the buildings are pleasant for strolling and you can hire bikes, paddleboards and various other contraptions to enjoy them.

Jardines del Turia

Jardines del Turia

Stretching the length of Río Turia’s former course, this 9km-long lung of green is a fabulous mix of playing fields, cycling, jogging and walking paths, lawns and playgrounds. As it curves around the eastern part of the city, it's also a pleasant way of getting around.

Address:

46003 Valencia

What I like about it

After its inauguration in 1986, the park never stopped developing. In the huge Gulliver park, opened in 2000, children can climb onto the fingers, hair and legs of a giant, 70m recumbent figure and slide down them like Lilliputians.

Mercado Central

A sacred temple in the heart of Ciutat Vella (old town), where the traders offer you the chance to immerse yourself in this unusual world of taste, colours, and aromas. It is Europe´s largest market and is listed as one of the most beautiful markets in the world by BBC.

Address:

Plaza del Mercado

What I like about it

Fruits and vegetables are produced locally in Valencia's huerta (area of market gardens). A tapas bar lets you sip a wine and enjoy the atmosphere.
